My second Children’s Hospital commission was a 120 x 20 foot mural on three substrate - drywall, perforated metal and glass - for the Melinda French Gates Ambulatory Care Building. The building, and the mural, were  cover features on Healthcare Design magazine and Health Facilities Management magazine. My mural was an undersea environment, Sound Garden, dominated by a Giant Pacific Octopus, nicknamed “Candy” by some of the Hospital patients. I painted the majority of the mural in oil on canvas and subcontracted the glasswork to artist Irene D’Aloisio, who sand-carved my design into four 4x9 foot glass panels. Irene and I also worked together on a second glass project at the King County Courthouse.
