My painting of the "Mars Return Mission" was commissioned by Scientific American magazine and eventually chosen by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena as a visual mascot of this program, reproduced as a limited edition print. To create this dramatic scene of the return module blasting off from the Martian surface I used JPL's computer assisted design drawings of the lander, rover and return modules, plus photographs of the Marscape from an earlier mission. The illustration is painted in oil on panel. It was displayed at the 1999 -2000 "One Small Step" show of NASA art at the University of Delaware.
